Today was the Embassy Christmas Party at the DCM's residence. Alex has been really sick and wasn't well enough to go, so it was just daddy and Ellie having some quality time together with about thirty other kids and parents.
Santa arrived with Marine escorts in a horse-drawn carriage - Ellie was more excited about the horses than she was about Santa so we spent some time petting the horses and looking at their harness and gear. But she jumped right into the social aspect of the event, picking her way up to a spot in the rush around Santa's chair. She was thrilled with her present from Santa as you can see from the clip above.
For those of you who are not initiated into the world of Ellie speak, any male who is involved with a princess in any capacity is a "Derek" (that originates with Derek, the cobbler and love interest of Geniveve, in "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses). Derek is currently dancing with all four of Ellie's Barbies (lucky dog he is!).
