2008 White House Easter Egg Roll

Eating our free breakfast burritos and playing games on the Ellipse while waiting for our 11:45 ticket time to enter the South Lawn. Since that morning, I have been able to get my kids to eat almost anything if I first wrap it in aluminum foil like a burrito...

Bored in the security check lines...

Ellie doesn't grasp the fundamentals of egg "rolling"...

A huge crowd turned out for the relatively small space -- I read that 22,000 tickets were distributed -- but everyone was so happy and there was so much to do and see and the volunteers did such a great job of moving the lines quickly that we didn't even notice...

I've been to some places. I've seen some stuff. I've done some things. I've been to the Kremlin. I've seen Michaelangelo's David. I've visited the largest outdoor sitting Buddha. I've floated down the Seine and I've eaten Ukrainian borscht in Ukraine. People have certainly done more, but to me, my life is pretty interesting. So I was a little surprised at how excited I was to be on the White House lawn 10 feet from the grass where Barney the Presidential Dog was lazing around. But it was exciting. It was very exciting. The weather was beautiful, the people were nice, the grass was soft and fragrant and green, the White House was...well, it was the White House!! We rolled some eggs and we laughed like kids all afternoon...

What an incredible experience. Your children are sooooo blessed, first to have you two as parents and then to able able to participate in so many different experiences - and, I'm sure, the best is yet to come!
