The morning of Christmas Eve, we headed down to the Botanic Gardens right next door to the US Capitol to check out the mini train displays. Amazing. They also had on display replicas of many DC monuments and buildings. The photo here is of the Smithsonian castle and, believe me, it is that much more impressive in person. The gardens had Christmas tree printouts that the kids could decorate with stamps hidden throughout the building, which was also pretty fun for Alex. Later that evening we met up with our fellow State Dept friends, the P family, for Christmas Eve dinner and do-nuts on strings. Two years running now the kids wear their Christmas jammies all through the month of December, but come Christmas Eve they want to wear something different, of course. Still pretty cute, if you ask me.
