About the only thing we don't like about our furnished apartment is that there are TVs in every room. Now, we have talked to the kids about not turning on the TV unless they get permission, but... Early this afternoon I walked into Alex's room and found him stretched out on his bed, hands crossed behind his head, chewing a huge wad of gum and watching the warm-up to a NASCAR truck division race on TV. When the national anthem was sung the camera cut away to a shot of the American flag. Alex said, "Yeah, that's the flag of Texas!" As the anthem was introduced the voice-over noted, "Now the anthem of the United States of America." And Alex said, "America! Ellie lives in America!" To which I responded, "Where does Alex live?" he replied, proudly, "TEXAS!" We took the boy out of Nacogdoches, but we can't take Texas out of the boy.
